Join the Choir
Are you ready to perform at the Anvil and other great venues?
We are always open to new members even during the current pandemic.
We are continuing to sing during the COVID pandemic, albeit in a very different way.
We are currently using Zoom rehearsals as a way to continue with our love of singing.
Our Musical Director, David Gibson, leads us through the session each Wednesday (19.30-21.00). We sing along at home to David's playing of our parts and to a performance backing track. You may have heard of some of the big global choirs which rehearse in this way. At the moment we are working on Bach's wonderful B Minor Mass with a view to a performance when this becomes possible again.
We are also looking at ways in which we might also be able to sing together in smaller groups during the pandemic.
If you would like to try out our zoom rehearsals, do please contact us using the button below.
Our usual annual subscription is £170 with a reduction for anyone joining part way through the year which runs from November to October. Because of Covid this has been reduced to £20 for the 2020/21 year so an ideal chance to join us and see what we do on line.
We meet to rehearse on most Wednesdays at the Vyne School, Basingstoke, RG21 5PB between 7:30 and 9:30 pm. It is close to Basingstoke Railway station and has a large car park
We sing major choral works from the classical repertoire by composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Mozart, Haydn and many others, as well as modern contemporary works. Have a look at our previous concerts section to see the works we have performed recently.
Do I need to be able to read music?
You not need to be able to sight read music but it obviously helps to have a basic understanding of reading music; this is because we sing from choral scores which can be challenging to learn. However for each performance we will spend the preceding 10 weeks or so learning the piece with the aid of learning tracks and videos Our Assistant Music Director has recorded short video guides for beginners which are available to all prospective members
After 3 or 4 weeks if you feel you would like to join us then you will have a one-to-one voice consultation with David Gibson, our Musical Director, to assess which voice section would be most suitable. It takes about 5 minutes and is quite informal.
